Project Description:

Efficient power conversion electronics with small footprint has become increasing important in automotive and other applications. Incorporating magnetic materials as core instead of air core in integrated inductors can help greatly reduce the size, however, in practice it is difficult to match measured result with electromagnetic simulation using only uniform thin film magnetic property. This project intends to develop modeling and simulation capability of integrated magnetic thin film core inductors based on Cadence tool, by carefully measuring thin film magnetic film static and frequency dependent properties, while incorporating these properties in simulation by considering detailed magnetic film property variation as a result of local shape and environment change, and comparing simulation result from those of measured, thus provide robust strategy for accurate simulation and future device designs.
