This project intends to thoroughly study the multiphysics coupling between mechanical impact, electrochemical performance, and temperature distribution. Based on this, a design criteria will be established on under what level of mechanical impact, the battery pack is still safe. Then we will design new origami-inspired mechanical impact absorption structures using visco-elastic materials. The topology optimization will be performed on the shapes of the origami structures and the configurations of the battery pack to achieve better performance of the impact resistance of the battery pack.
