Project Description:

In this project, we will develop portable biosensors for disease/controlled substance (alcohol, drugs possible?) detection from the exhaled breath, to ensure vehicle drivers and passengers health and safe transportation. Specifically, we will detect some highly contagious pathogen, such as flu. The passive sensor is mainly a RC circuit consisting of interdigital electrodes (e.g., Au decorated with bonding agent) and antenna coil. The mechanism is when the pathogen is bonded with the electrodes, the electrical impedance will be altered and can be wirelessly detected through the RC circuit. A handheld device will be developed for data acquisition and processing.
